Creating two rooms in just 8 days!

The challenge
To close the kitchen off from the lounge room, creating a brand new sitting room with its own identity, in which to relax and entertain.
The Inspired Interiors’ solution
To use our total in-house project management capability to create two individual rooms by completely stripping out all fixtures and fittings to refit, redecorate and deliver a new lounge to our client’s specification.
Scope of work
- Gutting of front lounge area and disposing of all materials: underlay, carpet, gripper rods, radiator, light fittings, power sockets and light etc.
- Separating kitchen from new room with a stud partition wall.
- Building a new feature faux chimney breast with bulkheads to each side, creating a focus for the new room.
- Plastering throughout: both sides of the new wall, and existing walls either side of partition, both in the lounge and in the kitchen; chimney breast and bulkheads.
- Fitting of new skirting board to match the existing style.
- Fitting of new dado rail to complement the skirting.
- Painting throughout: all new-plastered and existing painted surfaces mist-coated and sealed with super-cover emulsion, followed by two coats of matt emulsion.
- Priming and undercoating of all new and existing woodwork, followed by gloss.
- Installing of new brushed-chrome, double power sockets and light switch.
- Installing of new, contemporary brushed-chrome radiator.
- Fitting of two sets of alcove shelving and cupboards.
- Fitting of new ceiling light and 4 down lights to new bulkheads.
- Installing of new fire place surround and new electric fire/stove pipe.
- Mounting of existing TV on new wall bracket, plus installing all AV gear including SKY TV.
- Fitting of new Karndean Designflooring* in Country Oak to whole lounge area.
Result
A brand new, bespoke lounge in just 8 days. No sight, sound or smell of kitchen activity. No effort or expense spared, and bang on budget, too. An immaculate standard of work throughout. Importantly – a stress-free client delighted with their new domestic arrangement.
